About Us

📜 RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT

Acknowledgment of Risk:
Participants acknowledge and assume all risks related to farm and equine activities, including animal behavior, terrain, weather, and the actions of others.


Waiver of Liability:
Participants waive and release Horse House and CCTX Animal Adventure (and all associated staff) from liability for injuries, death, or property damage—even in cases of negligence, per Texas law.


Medical & Property Responsibility:
Participants are responsible for their own medical care and property. The facility assumes no liability.


Indemnification Clause:
Participants agree to cover any legal or financial consequences caused by their actions, including third-party claims.


Minors:
Legal guardians accept these terms on behalf of minor participants.


⚖️ Texas Equine Activity Liability Act (TEALA)

TEALA limits liability for equine and farm activity providers due to the inherent risks of such activities. Providers are not responsible for injuries or damages stemming from these inherent dangers.


⚠️ Warnings for Horseback Riding

  • Common Risks: Falls, head injuries (even with helmets), and loss of control.
  • Animal Behavior: Horses may buck, bolt, or react to sudden stimuli.
  • Environmental Hazards: Uneven terrain, insects, wildlife, branches, and weather.
     
  • Rider Fitness Requirements:
    • Riders must be physically able to mount, balance, and complete rides.
    • Weight limit is 20% of the horse’s weight (including tack).
    • Riders with medical concerns should consult a doctor.
       

🧰 Safety Rules & Rider Preparation

  • Gear Requirements: Helmets (mandatory under 18, recommended for all), long pants, and closed-toe shoes (no large heels).
  • Bring: Refillable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, medications, and proper attire.
  • Weather Restrictions: No riding during lightning, high winds, or extreme temperatures.
     

🐎 Trail Etiquette

  • Stay on marked trails.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and other riders.
  • Do not ride under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications affecting physical or mental function.
     

📅 Booking & Cancellation Policies

  • All services must be paid in full at time of booking unless otherwise noted.
  • 14-day cancellation notice required for most bookings with deposits (non-refundable).
  • 24-hour notice required for lesson cancellations to be eligible for a credit or reschedule.

Services with Deposit (Balance Due 2 Weeks Prior):

  • Horse trailers & livestock hauling
  • Private events, parties, photo/TV shoots

📚 Lesson Policies

  • Missed Lessons:
    • No-shows = no credit or makeup
    • Private lessons: 24-hr notice allows for a makeup within 7 days
    • Group lessons:
       
      • Option A: Credit toward next month’s series (non-transferable, no carryover)
      • Option B: $15 private makeup lesson (based on availability)
      • Option C: Join another group (if space and instructor approved)
         
  • Barn Reschedules: Makeup lessons will be scheduled within 7 days; no private lesson replacement for group makeups.
  • Unmounted Curriculum: Riders must still attend during inclement weather for horsemanship credit.
     
  • Payment Due Dates:
    • Recurring lessons are due by the 1st of each month.
    • Invoices go out around the 28th of the previous month.
       
  • Series Cancellation: Must provide 7-day notice before the new month or on the second-to-last lesson.
     

🚫 Right to Refuse Service

Service may be denied or terminated without refund due to:

  • Disrespectful, abusive, or disruptive behavior
  • Violation of safety policies
  • Inappropriate attire or unsafe gear
  • Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Health concerns or posing safety risks to others or animals
     

🔁 No Refund Policy

No refunds, reschedules, or barn credits for:

  • Violations of rules
  • Missed appointments without proper notice
  • Refused or ejected participants
     

Texas Equine Liability Act (HB 365)

 

The Texas Farm Animal Liability Act (FALA) began in 1995 as the Texas Equine Act, a narrow statute that protected horse owners from liability for participants’ injuries resulting from the inherent risks of interacting with horses. This statute was expanded in 2011 to cover not only horses, but “farm animals” generally. “Farm animals” are defined in the statute as equines, bovines, sheep, goats, pigs, hogs, ratites (large flightless birds, including rheas, ostriches, and emus), chicken, and other fowl (Tex. Civ. Practice & Rem Code § 87-001(2-1).

Membership Policies

  • Automatic Billing:
    All memberships require a credit card to be held on file, with automatic billing processing on the 1st of every month.
     
  • Cancellation Policy:
    To cancel your membership, a 30-day written notice is required. If you don’t cancel and your commitment is expiring, your membership will automatically renew every 3 months. Cancellation notice must be provided on the 1st day of the month.
     
  • Prorated Dues:
    Your first month's membership dues will be prorated based on the date of enrollment.
     
  • Commitment Periods:
    Membership commitments are available in the following terms:
    • 3-month
    • 6-month
    • Yearly
       
  • Renewal Discounts:
    After completing your first 3-month commitment, you will receive a 10% discount for a 6-month commitment or 15% off for a yearly commitment. Lesson Pricing & Scheduling:
    Specific pricing and scheduling for lessons will be shared upon registration

Internships and Volunteers 

Intern and Volunteer Training Requirement
All interns and volunteers are required to complete 20 hours of unpaid training alongside staff before beginning their regular duties. This training is essential to ensure safety, consistency, and a clear understanding of our policies, procedures, and animal care standards.

Training hours must be scheduled and logged with a staff supervisor. Completion of this requirement is mandatory for participation in our program. 

DO NOT SHOW UP UNSCHEDULED. 

Internship Requirements

  • All Interns MUST be CURRENT Lessons students or Teams Riders
  • 14 Years old or older
  • Must be able to commitment at least 8 Hour of volunteer work to the barn per month
  • Must maintain passing grades and good conduct in community and school.
  • You are required to sign in and out daily with staff. If you do not sign in and out and have Mng. confirm your hours they will NOT be credited.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 18+
  • Must have a clear background check
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Be physically capable of the job requirements, working in extreme weather, lifting 50lbs, working around animals, working with tools and machinery.
  • Required to sign waivers and release forms. We are not responsible or liable for injuries or death. 

Volunteers 

  • We are not a 501C3 and you can not nor will you get any community service hours.
  • You are not guaranteed to work with animals
  • We do not do trade credits for lessons, training, and any other service or products.

Internships

  • We are not a 501C3 and you can not nor will you get any community service hours.
  • Internships are NOT PAID. After your 20 hours of required training is completed you may be eligible for $7.25 per hour credits towards lessons, memberships, teams, and/or other service and products for CARE TAKING ONLY. Shadowing camps, clinics, lessons, trainers WILL NOT BE CREDITED. These are learning opportunities. 

Please understand we have a full time paid staff, paying interns and volunteers takes hours away from staff who have the experience to do this job to the fullest, they are here year round, they count on their hours to budget for their family and personal expenses. Internships and volunteering is an opportunity to learn a business you have a passion for and work with professionals with decades of experience. 

Volunteering is mostly cleaning and mucking paddocks, cleaning and refilling water, cleaning feed rooms and shared spaces such as tackroom and bunk house, landscaping, and trash duty, repairs and maintenance.

Internships will focus on; 

Care Taking:

  • Feeding hay, grain, supplements, medication as scheduled, learning and building a correct nutrition plan
  • Providing clean, fresh water
  • Grooming: brushing, hoof picking, fly spray
  • Cleaningstalls, paddocks and pasture areas
  • Monitoring for injuries, lameness, or illness
  • Tack cleaning and inspection
  • Assisting with farrier visits 
  • Deworming and vaccinations
  • Clipping or blanketing in cold weather
  • Fly control (fly masks, sprays, traps)
  • Tack fitting and maintenance
  • Assisting Dental floats 

Lesson Program: The Lesson Program Internship at Horse House is a hands-on opportunity for aspiring equine professionals to work directly with our experienced instructors, lesson horses, and clients. Interns will gain real-world experience in riding instruction, horse behavior, and client communication in a supportive, structured environment.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Shadow and assist lesson instructors during riding lessons
  • Learn and help implement Horse House's lesson curriculum and safety procedures
  • Assist in evaluating riders and setting appropriate goals
  • Work with clients of all ages and experience levels
  • Aid in preparing horses and tack for lessons
  • Participate in horse schooling, correction rides, and conditioning programs
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming lesson environment

Goals of the Internship:

  • Develop confident teaching skills through mentorship and practice
  • Gain experience in both group and private lesson settings
  • Understand the progression of riders from beginner to advanced levels
  • Learn to assess and adjust horses for lesson suitability and behavior
  • Build professional communication and leadership skills

Camps & Clinics 

  • Assist in organizing daily camp schedules and clinic setups
  • Help prepare activity stations, lesson plans, and educational materials
  • Supervise and support campers and clinic participants
  • Assist camp staff small group activities such as games, crafts, or barn chores
  • Aid in preparing horses: grooming, saddling, and cooling down
  • Monitor participant safety and behavior during mounted and unmounted activities
  • Support instructors during mounted lessons or ground clinics
  • Help manage transitions between activities, meals, and breaks

Training:This internship offers an immersive experience for individuals interested in horse training, behavior, and daily management of working horses. Interns work directly alongside Horse House’s professional trainers to learn the physical, mental, and environmental needs of horses in a full-service training program.

  • Groom and tack horses for training sessions
  • Lead and handle horses safely before and after training
  • Cool down, untack, rinse, and return horses to stalls or pastures
  • Monitor condition, soundness, and temperament of training horses

Training Support

  • Assist trainers with groundwork, longeing, and desensitizing
  • Observe and take notes on correction rides, behavior management, and problem-solving techniques
  • Ride under supervision (if capable), helping with conditioning and exercise rides
  • Set up and adjust equipment for specific training needs (poles, barrels, flags, cones, etc.)
  • Maintain tack and gear used in the training program

Recordkeeping & Evaluation

  • Help document horse progress, health notes, and training milestones
  • Learn to evaluate a horse’s movement, soundness, and responsiveness
  • Participate in progress meetings or training evaluations as appropriate

What Interns Learn:

  • Equine behavior and psychology
  • Training methods for groundwork, green horses, and finished horses
  • Rider influence and balance in a training program
  • Problem-solving common behavioral issues
  • Safe handling of green, reactive, or rehabbing horses
  • Training logs and progress tracking
  • Effective communication between trainer, rider, and client
